Have you ever looked at a Reiki course and thought, “I’d love to learn Reiki but I’m too nervous.” If so, you’re not alone. As a leading Cheshire Reiki teacher and having taught Reiki for over a decade, every Reiki beginners course, Reiki Level 1, has usually at least one person who admitted they nearly cancelled because of nerves.
Whether they’re worried about meeting new people, wondering if they’ll understand the training or be able to do Reiki. Some felt anxious about walking into a room where they didn’t know anyone and for some the nerves are being in an unfamiliar space and maybe having an anxiety or panic attack.
Other Students Felt Nervous Too
Many of my students have told me they felt nervous before attending. By the end of the training day, they were glad they had taken that first step.
Donna said: “I had an amazing time with Julia on my Reiki Level 1 course. She put me straight at ease as I have quite bad anxiety. I felt comfortable throughout the day. It was great to learn and also have the time to practise without having to rush.”
Steven had Reiki training to help with his anxiety. His advice to anyone feeling too nervous to book was: “Anyone thinking of doing this but can’t muster up the courage, do it.”
One student will always stay in my memory. They were a practical learner, but the school system had involved too much theory and had not suited the way they learned best. At the end of their Reiki Level 1 training, they told me it was the first certificate and qualification they had ever gained. They did brilliantly. That day reminded me that people don’t lack ability. For some they simply haven’t been taught in a way that allows them to shine.
Reiki Level 1 – Learning to help heal you
The good news about Reiki Level 1 the training day is about learning to help heal yourself (and loved ones if you choose). Everyone in that room will have something they want to change within themselves or let go of. Everyone has a problem, sometimes they just are not that obvious.
I have OCD, which I developed out of the blue after a life trauma, in my early 30s. When life gets more difficult it comes back with vengeance. Reiki self healing and mediation helps to stabilise it. The good news is it means I have a high attention to detail when running Reiki events.
It is just if you are nervous people don’t walk around with a t-shirt saying me too. You assume it is only you. You might even see it as a weakness or if you berate yourself enough a failure. When my OCD is at full throttle, it makes me feel like a failure. But, also looking it another way, I was strong so long, that eventually something had to give. Also, the benefit of a double checking style of OCD, I have a high attention to detail, which my Reiki students seem to love from the many reviews. Sometimes what you think is a weakness can also be a superpower.
You Don’t Need Any Previous Experience
Reiki Level 1 is designed for complete beginners. You don’t need any previous Reiki experience, qualifications or spiritual background. You certainly don’t have to be “school smart.” Reiki is a practical life skill that almost anyone can learn with the right teaching, guidance and opportunity to practise.
You’ll learn about the history of Reiki, the Reiki Principles and how Reiki works. You’ll also receive your Reiki Level 1 attunements and learn how to give Reiki to yourself and to family and friends.
Reiki training includes theory, but it is also practical. You learn by watching, asking questions and practising throughout the day.
Choose A Small Class
Walking into a room full of strangers can feel daunting. That’s one of the reasons I keep my Reiki classes small. A smaller group gives everyone time to ask questions, practise and learn at their own pace.
Some students need to feel calmer by sitting near a door, whereas another has more inner peace by being able to out through a window. Just let your teacher know before booking on your Reiki training day.
There are No Silly Questions.
Often, someone else is thinking the same thing but is too nervous to ask. Questions also help me as a teacher. They show me when I need to explain something differently or spend more time on a particular area. The aim is for you to leave feeling confident rather than overwhelmed.
You Learn Reiki by Practising It
Most Reiki courses aren’t about sitting and listening all day. You’ll learn the theory, but you’ll also have plenty of practical experience throughout the training day. I know my students love having this mixture of learning experiences.
You’ll practise giving Reiki and experience receiving it. You’ll also learn how to use Reiki for yourself as part of your own self-care.
You won’t be expected to remember everything immediately. Your course information is included in a detailed Reiki training manual that you can refer to afterwards.
What Is the Benefit of an Usui Reiki Lineage?
Before accredited Reiki training existed, Reiki knowledge was passed from teacher to student through a training lineage. This began with Mikao Usui, the founder of the Usui Reiki system. The teaching, knowledge and practical experience were passed from one Reiki Master to the next.
Paper was limited and extremely expensive at the time, so much of the teaching was verbal and practical. Students learned directly from their Reiki Master and memorised the knowledge and wisdom they were given.Today, accreditation helps to show that a Reiki course meets approved training criteria.
A verified Usui Reiki lineage offers an additional benefit. It shows that your teacher’s Reiki training can be traced through previous Reiki Masters back to Mikao Usui.
As a Reiki Master Teacher with a verified Usui lineage, students who complete my Reiki courses receive a certificate with their Reiki qualification with the extra words:
“Attunement and training in the Usui Natural Healing in accordance with the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition.”
You can gain a Reiki qualification with a verified Usui lineage. Training within the Usui tradition means you are also becoming part of Reiki’s continuing heritage.
Why Learn Reiki with Me?
Choosing the right teacher matters. I’ve been teaching Reiki for over a decade and have helped train Reiki therapists, Reiki Masters and Reiki Teachers around the North West.
I am member of the UK Reiki Federation at Reiki Master Teacher level, with the training lineage back to Mikao Usui. My courses are accredited by the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine (IPHM which give me flexibility in my teaching style, to take into account students backgrounds and spiritual development.
As one of Cheshire’s leading Reiki teachers and a recognised North West Reiki expert, I combine Reiki theory with extensive teaching knowledge and the practical experience of running my own Reiki business.
My Reiki Level 1 training in Warrington is deliberately kept small, friendly and welcoming. You’ll have time to ask questions, practise and receive support throughout the day. You need someone with the Reiki knowledge and teaching experience to explain the theory clearly, demonstrate the practical work and help you feel confident using Reiki.
Ready to Learn Reiki?
Reiki Level 1 can help you learn a practical life skill that you can use for your own self-care and to support the people you love. You don’t need previous experience or qualifications. You simply need to be willing to learn.
If you’ve been thinking about learning Reiki but nerves have been holding you back, perhaps this is the sign to stop putting it off. Take a look at my upcoming Reiki Level 1 training dates .
