Reiki is more than collecting three certificates Reiki Level 1, Reiki Level 2 and Reiki Master level. For most students it is a soul calling, they feel compelled to learn Reiki and decide to trust their intuition and guidance.
Usui Reiki, is where a Reiki Master can prove their Reiki heritage back to the original founder of Reiki, Usui. Sacred knowledge that has passed from Reiki Master to Reiki Master – a historic lineage.
An Usui Reiki Master is offering you more than simply Reiki theory or a Reiki course; to become part of the Reiki tradition. This Reiki training is called Usui Shiki Ryoho.
The Reiki Training Lineage
Mikao Usui is the original founder of Reiki healing. He attracted many students and healed many people. One of the Reiki students he passed his knowledge onto was a retired naval officer called Chujiro Hayashi who set up the Usui Reiki clinic. Word of Reiki was spreading, more and more people wanted to be taught, so branches were opened around Japan.
Hawayo Takata was a lady who became a student of Hayashi around 1935. In her journal she writes about Reiki:
“The power is unfathomable, immeasurable, and being a universal life force, it is incomprehensible to man”

Hawayo taught around 22 Reiki Masters, including Phyllis Lei Furumoto, her grand-daughter, which is where my Reiki Master lineage is from .
Five Reiki Principles
There are 5 traditional Reiki Principles or Reiki Precepts that were again passed down my lineage.
- Just for today, do not worry
- Just for today, do not anger
- Honour your parents, teachers and elders
- Earn your living honestly
- Show gratitude to every living thing (and situation)
I have seen variations on these outside my Reiki training lineage.
Four Aspects of Usui Reiki
Often Reiki is described as “Universal Life Energy”, I know that is one of the descriptions that was given to me when I was doing my Reiki 1 training. Traditional Reiki is Usui Shiki Ryoho and it brings together the four aspects:
- healing practice
- personal development
- the spiritual aspect
- like minded souls, traditionally called the Mystic Order.
Advantages of Usui Reiki Training Course
Reiki is a beautiful form of healing to support your wellbeing and fits around you and your life. Learning from a traditional Reiki teacher, Usui Reiki, gives you the opportunity to take away the traditional emphasis beyond simply gaining a qualification. Rather you gain a Reiki qualification with heritage, learn a spiritual healing practice to help support you in life.
As a student you receive historic wisdom that has travelled from Japan via Reiki Master to Reiki Master. Where the Reiki was taught and passed in person for the class experience, with the ritual and ceremony of Reiki attunements. Your Reiki training becomes an opportunity to take time out from modern life into traditional Reiki wisdom.
Reiki Qualification with Extra Special Words
Learning from a traditional Usui Reiki Master Teacher, like myself, means your still gain your Reiki qualification. However, in addition to this on your Reiki qualification certificate it says these special words
“Attunement and training in the Usui Natural Healing in accordance with the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition.”
The Usui Shiki Ryoho was translated into English as “Usui System of Natural Healing” roughly around 15 years after Hawayo Takata’s death in 1980.
In the past, there were not reiki courses accredited by various bodies, there were Reiki Masters who taught and passing down their knowledge and experience gained from their Reiki Master, their Reiki training and their Reiki healing of others.
I only recently decided to accredited my Reiki Training and Reiki qualifications with an external body, as I was being asked by potential students more and more. However, I feel that is more due to the lack of promotion of the historic nature of Usui Shiki Ryoho.
Training In Reiki
I have been teaching Reiki for over a decade and am now one of Cheshire’s leading Reiki teachers and a North West Reiki expert. I now have former students who are themselves Reiki Therapists, Reiki Masters and Reiki Teachers. All having been taught Reiki, Usui Shiki Ryoho. Getting their Reiki certificates with the extra special words on to recognise they were taught from a Reiki Master with a lineage back to the original founder of Reiki last century.
How your Reiki gift grows and develops is the exciting part. If you want to start your Reiki journey then the first training and qualification is Reiki Level 1, sometimes called First Degree Reiki. I teach Reiki 1 on a regular basis and the training is one day including your Reiki 1 qualification.
If you are looking to do your next Reiki Level, I do teach people who have learnt and gained their Reiki qualifications elsewhere. You can still gain your next Reiki qualification in this traditional way. Your next certificate will mean you are qualified in that level of Reiki, but will also have the advantage of saying on your certificate “Attunement and training in the Usui Natural Healing in accordance with the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition.”
Traditional Usui Reiki for calming, soothing healing in the modern world. Timeless energy.
