If you are considering Reiki Master training, chances are you are not just asking about Reiki. Reiki has become personal to you and your path forward. As a leading Cheshire Reiki trainer, most people who enquire about Reiki Master training are not or trying to become “perfect spiritual people.” They are simply looking for more peace, purpose, confidence, healing and light in their lives.
To an outsider who has never experienced Reiki, they might question the worth of learning Reiki, as it is an intangible life skill. However ask qualified Reiki Master students and most say Reiki has changed their life for the better. It could have got them through sickness, bereavement, work stress, bullying, redundancy or the end of a relationship. Others it just helped them as people with their wellbeing or they are Reiki therapists in a volunteering or paid capacity.
We all value things differently. I have been teaching Reiki over a decade, and have been featured in the national media as a North West and UK Reiki expert, let me answer some of the common questions I have been asked.
What is Reiki Master Training?
Reiki Master level is also called Shinpiden. It is the highest traditional level of Usui Reiki training. Previous students have found it helped to deepens their connection to Reiki energy, their confidence with Reiki and their spiritual path.
For some people, Reiki Master training leads to professional Reiki work helping others. For others, it becomes a personal milestone, a moment where they finally choose themselves after years of focusing on everyone else. Some students want to eventually teach, but the majority never intend to teach Reiki at all.
Not all Reiki Master Levels include the teaching aspect. My lineage from Usui, Hayashi, Takata and then eventually to myself here in Warrington, includes how to offer the Reiki attunements for all three Reiki levels. You actually gain a qualification as a Reiki Master/Teacher with myself.
How Do You Know You are Ready For Reiki Master Training?
The next level in life is simple the unknown. As children we are pushed forward by teachers and parents, to try the next level such as: ride a bike, learn to drive or apply for our first job. With Reiki, there is usually no-one pushing you to do it, it typically comes from within. A Reiki Master teacher is used to people feeling a bit unsure whether they are “ready”.
You do not need to be perfect, you do not need to have your life fully figured out or “feel spiritual enough.” Often the biggest sign is simply “I keep thinking about it.” You simply needed to have waited for a minimum of a year since qualifying in your Reiki Level 2.
Modern life creates enormous noise and distraction. Work, responsibilities, social media, routines, worry, exhaustion and other people’s expectations can slowly drown out our own inner guidance. We are taught to constantly look outside ourselves for answers.
Yet Reiki teaches us to go within. Many students just have a soul calling to do this level or they say that their Reiki journey somehow does not feel complete without it, like something is missing. They might keep putting it off as it never feels the right time
Sometimes, its hard to justify its “worth” to others – especially if they are not considering Reiki as a form of income. Students just want to do it rather than get involved in lengthy explanations feeling they have to justify why they are. Some life choices aren’t rational at the time. You might go on a cookery course only to use the knowledge years later, or an art course where your found your best friend. Your instinct, or inner knowing, just directed you there.
Do You Have To Teach Reiki After Becoming A Reiki Master?
Absolutely not, this is one of the biggest myths around Reiki Master training.
Many students take Reiki Master level because they:
• want deeper healing
• enjoy spiritual development
• want more confidence with Reiki
• want to strengthen their Reiki intuition
• want to reconnect with themselves
• are entering a new phase of life
• finally have more space to focus on personal growth
Reiki can fit around modern life beautifully because it is flexible. Most use it simply for support in their life journey, others to help family members, some become Reiki Therapists alongside an existing career/retirement maybe for extra money or the spiritual aspect. A few want to build it up into a professional business and teach it.
There is no single “correct” path.
Can You Earn Money After Reiki Master Training?
This is another common question people often feel nervous asking.
The reality is that many people today are looking for:
• more meaningful work
• flexible income
• better work-life balance
• a calmer pace of life
• work that feels emotionally rewarding
Reiki can offer that possibility. You can actually offer Reiki professional with your Reiki Level 2 qualification and gaining your insurance. Some like to wait until they have their Reiki Master qualification first
How Can I Become A Reiki Therapist and Maybe A Reiki Teacher If I’m Not Confident?
You don’t need lots of confidence you need compassion to the suffering of others. You know what its like to feel shy, maybe doing the wrong thing or questioning yourself on how your might appear. Most people who you will have as clients are seeing you at a low point in life. Being shy or lacking in confidence can be your advantage for clients who are feeling not quite their usual “shiny” selves or are natural introverts.
Many build up their Reiki confidence first by offering sessions to friends and family, doing voluntary work using their Reiki healing gift, and then starting to take on paid work using a spare room or renting a therapy room.
For myself, I got my Reiki Level 1 qualification when I was pregnant with my daughter (which some advice not to as there are two souls involved). I had a compelling need to start my Reiki journey. Reiki Level 2 I gained when she was a toddler, thinking I would use it to help myself and my brother who had just been diagnosed with ME and had to quit his environmental career. The Reiki Master Level I still had a burning desire to do, still thinking it was just to help my brother and also it felt like the Reiki training had not been completely “finished”.
Choosing the Right Reiki Teacher Matters
Reiki Master training is a significant step, so choosing an experienced Reiki teacher is important.
When choosing a course, consider:
- Does the teacher have experience teaching Reiki. Teaching is a skill, and not everyone is “school smart” Can they adapt their style to suit you? Will they make the teaching fun ? Are they helpful if you suffer from anxiety or panic attacks? Will you feel they support you or do they make you feel judged?
- Has the teacher got their own Reiki Healing practice. This is where they will have built up years of experience doing the actual job and be able to teach you more than Reiki theory or spiritual teachings.
- Does the teacher have a verified Usui lineage
- Is the Reiki Master training and qualification accredited
- What is the class size
- What ongoing support is there. If you have a question after the course, will they still take your call or message?
- Does the teacher’s approach feels right for you personally – have a chat with them, get to know their journey. Are they just giving you the perception their life is “sorted”, that they have mastered it. It is called the Reiki Master Practioner level for a reason. Life ebbs and flows, and we all have all had challenges. Hopefully they have gained Reiki knowledge, Reiki client experience and life wisdom. For myself, my mess is my message. What challenges and life moments I have been through, allows me to help clients and Reiki students better.
- Do you have had to have studied Reiki Level 1 and 2 with them as conditions of doing the Reiki Master Level
- What is the investment – this is price, time and practicalities of getting there. Some training is in the thousands and involves a lengthy period. Does it fit into your budget and your life. Is it near a motorway or train station?
- Not all Reiki Master training qualifications include the teaching aspect and qualify you to teach it. You might not want to teach it now but isn’t it nice to have the option if your Reiki path unfolds with that opportunity, rather than pay to do another course.
Why Are Some Reiki Master Courses One Day When Other Courses Last Months?
This is one of the most interesting questions I get asked. When Reiki was taught by Usui and then Hayashi, not everyone could read and write, also paper was very expensive and not widely available. Reiki was taught orally and practically, taking longer to ensure everyone understood the Reiki concepts, could remember them and actually do what they were learning.
Nowadays, Reiki training is often condensed as the student takes home an accompanying brochure home to support them in their recall. It has been researched and Reiki courses around the world are getting shorter in length. Modern lifestyles are far busier than they once were. Many people today are balancing working maybe with a commute, running households and caring responsibilities such as children or older parents – at the same time still trying to create some space for themselves.
You have the core Reiki material and then courses can expand larger and larger with additional meditations, discussion, personal stories, journaling exercises and spiritual exploration.
The traditional Reiki teachings themselves are actually very straightforward. Reiki is learnt from using it, for example in Reiki Level 1 this included included 21 days practising on yourself and then if you had the opportunity giving healing to friends and family

My Reiki Master teaching combines:

- Practical experience
- Grounded spiritual teaching
- Supportive learning
- Years of student recommendations for the Reiki Master training day
- Including how Reiki can be practically interwoven into your life personally and or professionally
- Take home accompanying Reiki Master brochure
- Helping to build your Reiki confidence and skill
- Fully accredited qualification, “Reiki Master/ Teacher” which includes the teaching aspect widening the Reiki options available to you. You might teach a family member or the public in the future.
I teach from real hands-on experience gained through years of client work and Reiki teaching. You don’t have to have been taught your Reiki Level 1 and Reiki Level 2 by myself. Students come from a variety of Reiki teachers.
I have students who are now Reiki practitioners and Reiki teachers themselves across the North West (and further afield). I have also been featured in UK and Australian media discussing Reiki and spiritual subjects. I combine passion for teaching Reiki with Reiki knowledge and years of Reiki Therapist experience to pass this onto my students.

Final Thoughts
The truth is, you may never fully discover what you are truly capable of, or where life and the universe may be trying to guide you , until you begin listening to that quiet inner pull instead of constantly pushing it aside.
Sometimes the real question is not: “Am I ready for Reiki Master training?”
It is:
“Am I finally ready to stop blocking my soul’s calling?”
