Most people who have explored Reiki or meditation have heard of the seven main chakras. But what if there was a hidden chakra that quietly helps to nourish them all?
Hrit Padma is often described as a subtle heart centre or mini chakra, located in the centre of the chest just below the heart chakra. Often referred to as our spiritual heart, it is believed to help nourish and support the seven main chakras, making it one of the most fascinating yet lesser-known parts of the subtle energy system.
The Eight Petals of the Spiritual Heart
Hrit Padma is traditionally pictured as an eight-petalled lotus. Each petal is said to represent a quality that naturally develops as we become more connected to our true selves. Different traditions describe these qualities slightly differently, but they often include: love, compassion, patience, forgiveness, gratitude, humility, courage and wisdom. Rather than qualities we have to force, they are qualities that naturally blossom as we nourish the heart.
At the very centre of these eight petals is the wish-fulfilling tree. At first glance, a wish-fulfilling tree sounds as though it grants whatever we ask for, such as more money, our soul mate, a successful career, a bigger house or perfect health. Yet, spiritual teachings point towards a much deeper understanding.
Every desire we have is, at its heart, a longing to come home to ourselves. We believe the better job, relationship or home will make us feel peaceful, loved, accepted, free or fulfilled. But these qualities already exist within us. They simply become hidden beneath fear, old experiences and the expectations of others.
The wishing tree teaches that our minds are constantly shaping our reality. By calming and having more peaceful, loving thoughts we can manifest greater abundance. This wish-fulfilling tree reminds us that our heart’s deepest wish is to remember and reconnect with who we truly are.
Flowing with the Rhythm of the Universe
One of the most beautiful lessons Hrit Padma offers is that not everything can be forced. We often approach healing as though it is something we must make happen. But healing doesn’t always respond to force. Sometimes it responds to allowing.
Reiki follows this same principle. As Reiki practitioners, we do not force healing or direct the energy through our own will. Reiki is about connecting with universal life-force energy; a pure, divine energy associated with healing. We aim to become like a hollow bamboo, simply allowing the energy to flow through us.
Liekiwise, meditation also is not about making something happen. It is about allowing ourselves simply to be. Not forcing. Simply accepting and allowing.
Sankalpa Ritam – a Mantra for Connection
With all the busyness of life, mantras can be a beautiful way to slow our thoughts and bring our attention back to the present moment. Rather than allowing the mind to keep racing from one thought to another, we focus on carefully chosen ancient Sanskrit words and allow their meaning and rhythm to settle within us.
Get yourself comfy sitting up and simply keep repeating “Sankalpa Ritam” silently to yourself or softly out loud for around 15 minutes. Every time your mind wanders off with other thoughts, you simply return to the words.
Sankalpa relates to your personal intention or heartfelt resolve.
Ritam relates to the natural rhythm, order or truth of the universe.
Together, the “Sankalpa Ritam” mantra is about aligning your own subtle intention with the greater rhythm of life. You do not need to force an answer or decide exactly what should happen. You can simply repeat the words, breathe and allow yourself to connect with what your heart is genuinely asking for beneath the noise of everyday life. Perhaps, as your mind becomes quieter, you begin to hear your deeper wish at the centre of this special chakra.
Reiki and Hrit Padma
Although Hrit Padma is not traditionally taught as part of Usui Reiki, many Reiki students naturally begin to experience this quieter, heart-centred way of living. By taking time to let go through practices such as Reiki and meditation, we create space within ourselves.
Space to quieten the noise.
Space to connect with something greater than ourselves.
Space to strengthen our own inner guidance.
The answers may not always arrive immediately, but when we stop forcing and allow ourselves simply to be, it can become easier to recognise what feels right for us.
Reiki is a life skill that can support your wellbeing for the rest of your life. By helping us let go of stress, fear and old patterns, Reiki creates space for healing, strengthens our intuition and helps us reconnect with who we truly are.
Reiki helps to nourish our healing and Hrit Padma, nourish the chakras. Together we are reminded to listen to our guidance and to the deepest wish of our spiritual heart.
